WILLIAM SHATNER “THE OUTER SPACE TRAVELER”

William Shatner is one of my favorite actors for decades.  I am old enough to remember watching Star Trek on my parent’s color Zenith Television when it first aired on NBC in 1966. William Shatner as Captain James T. Kirk was a true hero and role model.  Captain Kirk was smart, strong, fearless, and always took care of his friends and crew.  Captain Kirk was not afraid to bend the rules to protect the galaxy.

The Star Trek series ended in 1969 and basically has been in syndication ever since.  I have seen every Star Trek Movie William Shatner has made on the big screen.  I have watched episodes of Star Trek spin off series and movies, they were entertaining, but they all lacked the charisma and originality of William Shatner.

When I heard William Shatner was going to be the oldest astronaut to blast off on Jeff Bezo’s Blue Origin, I said to myself, “He is the Man.”  On October 13, 2021, as William Shatner entered the Blue Origin, it was 1966, and I was going to watch men and women in Outer Space. The smooth launch of the Blue Origin into outer space with William Shatner on board was inspirational and comforting for anyone that dreams of having the same experience. What is impressive was the reentry of the rocket itself, clean, undamaged, and capable of reuse for future flights.  The controlled steady descent of the capsule with crew inspires a person to be a part of such space travel. I will always be grateful to William Shatners vivid description of his experience in Outer Space…

“The covering of blue. This sheet, this blanket, this comforter that we have around.  We think, ‘Oh that’s blue sky,’ ” an emotional Shatner said after returning to Earth.  “Then suddenly you shoot through it all of the sudden, as though you’re whipping a sheet off you when you’re asleep, and you’re looking into blackness, into black ugliness.”

William Shatner, aka “Admiral James T. Kirk,” you are one of a kind and you continue to be a role model.  I admire you for all your accomplishments in the past and I thank you in advance for all your accomplishments in the future.  Mr. William Shatner you have, “Boldly gone where very few men and women have gone before, live longer and prosper.”
