JUDGE THE DEED NOT THE BREED!

I am sure sometime during your life, you have read a story or heard of a Pit Bull attacking someone.  I have read of Pit Bulls being banned from entire communities such as Denver Colorado because they are a vicious and dangerous breed of dog.   I just wanted to clear something up about the Pit Bull.  A Pit Bull just like any other dog when trained to fight, guard, or protect, then guess what the dog is going to do?   The Pit Bull like any other dog will behave in the manor it was trained.  You can’t just go around saying all Pit Bulls are bad because someone raised their dog inappropriately by reinforcing bad behavior and in most cases mistreating their dog.  Pit Bulls are loving animals that don’t deserve to be judged or banned from communities because their owners are the ones that are dangerous.  I have owned several Pit Bulls, all of whom have been rescued from shelters and they have all been the most loving of any dogs I’ve ever known.  Pit Bull’s, just like humans, should be judged by their true colors not by ignorant and exaggerated posts we see in the media.

So next time you come across a story about a “Vicious Pit Bull”, take a second to think about how any dog could be born vicious.  I hope you will think about the impact a Pit Bull’s environment has had on them before you judge their deed.

Now I just want to close with a sweet poem:

You made me what I am today, courage at its best.

You wanted me to know no fear, a cut above the rest.

Not only did I master that, but I’ve also thrown in loyalty, too.

Look past my eyes into my soul, you know I’d die for you.

I’ll watch your kids; I’ll watch your house. Your praise will be my crown, ask what you will-I’ll do my best.

I’ll even be your clown. But some of you don’t like me. I’m sure I don’t know why.

The only thing I’m guilty of is courage, love, and try.

But still, they want to see me go, they want my breed to end.

Will I see you sitting idly by? You, whom I called a friend?

You made me what I am today, you never saw me waiver.

I’ve done my best to keep you safe.

Won’t you please return the favor?

WHEN IT COMES TO PIT BULLS, THE BEAST IS OFTEN THE TWO-LEGGED ANIMAL AT THE OTHER END OF THE LEASH, BECAUSE TO KNOW A PIT BULL IS TO LOVE THEM!

  • As an owner and amateur trainer of one Staffordshire (RIP) and one pit, I’ve learned and educated myself about dogs by reading, watching other trainers, doing research, and practicing techniques. It’s incredible to me how many people who own and love dogs, but do nothing to learn how to communicate with an animal, learn the animals energy, and set rules, boundaries and limitations for them. I firmly believe the problem 99% of the time is with the person holding the leash.

  • Well I must say Selena has explained the misunderstandings that I have made when not knowing the facts. I grew up avoiding Pit Bulls because of what I heard about them. In the future, I will investigate before making decisions!!!

  • I couldn’t agree more, I love dogs but had fallen to the stereotype that Pit Bulls are dangerous and would get nervous around the breed until my friend had gotten two of them. He trained them from pups to be the most well behaved and loving dogs I’ve ever met. So very true, it’s up to the owner to shape their personalities.
